Silicon Nitride balls, are the most popular type of ceramic ball. Silicon Nitride ceramic balls are extremely resistant to wear and abrasion. Silicon Nitride balls have a low coeffient of thermal expansion (25% of that of steel balls) and weighs 60% less than equivilant sized steel balls. The micro-structure of Silicon Nitride balls allow them to resist significant stress, need no lubitration, are anti-magnetic and electrially insulating.
Silicon Nitride balls are efficient at high temperatures (up to 1400 deg. C), and combine extreme hardness and is a high precision ball. Silcon Nitride balls are commonly used in high precision bearings in the aerospace industry, for machine tools, measurement instruments, mechanical centrifuges, radar and missiles, pumps and compressors.
